During our recent school trip to Snaresbrook Crown Court, the largest court in Europe, our students had an incredible opportunity to engage with the legal system and learn about the path to becoming a judge. We were privileged to meet two judges who generously shared their experiences and insights.

The judges emphasised that a career in law is attainable for anyone with the right passion, recounting their own journeys from working-class backgrounds with parents who hadn't attended university. The children were inspired by the judges' stories, realising that they too could pursue a career in the legal field.

The highlight of the trip was a captivating Q & A session where the students eagerly posed a variety of questions to the judges. This interactive discussion allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the law and justice system in the UK.

In a hands-on activity, the children actively participated in a trial court case. They spent time preparing and presenting the case, assuming various courtroom roles. The students deliberated on the guilt or innocence of the defendant and explored sentencing options. The case was based on a real-life scenario, adding a practical and immersive element to their learning experience.

At the conclusion of the trial, the judges revealed how the actual case had been finalised, providing valuable insights into the real-world implications of their decisions. Overall, the trip was both educational and inspiring, offering our students a unique perspective on the legal profession and the workings of the justice system.
