Subject: FLU DATES 2024/2025

Dear Headteacher,

We are looking forward to working with you this coming term to provide your students with their Influenza Vaccinations. The Nasal spray and IM (gelatine free) will be offered to all students from Reception – Year 6.

The nasal flu vaccine is painless, quick, and side effects are uncommon and generally mild. This winter, now that life is back to normal, there is a very high risk that the NHS could be overwhelmed with illness caused by influenza, as we have not been mixing with others as much in the past few winters. Children who have the flu vaccine are less likely to pass the virus on to friends and family, especially those who may be at greater risk from flu, such as young babies, elderly people or friends and relatives with a serious health condition.

Flu Vaccine 2024-2025

The Flu vaccination will be offered to all years Reception – Year 6. Flu can cause serious illness within the community, so it is vital we share this information and make sure we protect as many people as possible this year. The number of dates your school has been offered is dependent on the school cohort size. Our scheduled dates for your school are as follows:

1st Date: Tuesday 08 Oct 2024

2nd Date: Monday 18 Nov 2024

3rd Date:

We would appreciate if you could do your best to accommodate these dates, as our diary is extremely full. Please reply to this email to confirm the date.

We would like to give you an idea where all schools should stand in terms of uptake on a national level.

National target for Influenza: 70%

In 2023/24 your school, William Ford CofE Junior School,  reached: 34.1%

Attached is our Session Guide for schools including expectations for us both plus for FAQs about this vaccine please follow this link:  https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/child-flu-vaccine-questions-and-answers/

If a parent misses the closing time for consent, please ask them to call the team on 0203 343 2400 where we can take consent over the phone.

How many children should I Schedule to come down and when?

Our nurses aim to vaccinate 25-30 per hour. Please make sure enough children are scheduled to these timings in order to finish the session.

What I need to action ahead of the session?

Send Class list to Vaccination UK ahead of the session (password protected) in excel format. We require the following: Child's full name, DOB, Class registration, parents contact number/email address and address. If we do not receive this in correct format and with all information required we will be asking for you to send it again.

Vaccination UK are grateful for the support that you provide by hosting NHS vaccination sessions. The vaccines will be administered by healthcare staff with appropriate qualifications who will work to nationally set standards.  We want to cause minimum disruption and so have provided the information above to help health and education teams work effectively for the benefit of students.
