I am writing to wish you all a happy Easter and to bring you up-to-date with one or two issues that may affect you.
You will probably be aware that Abelle, our provider of child care before and after school, has ceased trading following a visit from Ofsted. I would like to assure you that Abelle was entirely independent of both Village Infants and William Ford Junior Schools and that any comments from Ofsted relate only to Abelle and not to our schools. I would also like to re-assure you that the reasons for the closure have nothing to do with any Abelle staff or any children in their care on any of their sites including ours. Mrs. Meech and I are working hard to find a replacement for Abelle but the suddenness of the closure means that it will take time for us to arrange this. We hope to have replacement child care for before and after school in place again on our own premises in time for the beginning of the Autumn Term. In the meantime, I thank you for your patience and understanding that this was something outside of our control.
I would also like to bring to your attention yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling over term-time holidays which has established once and for all that it is unlawful to take pupils out of school to take them on holiday or for any other reason not related to their illness. It is clearly the case that children who attend school at all times other than when they are ill are more academically successful than those who do not. If you choose to keep your children away from school under such circumstances, you are acting unlawfully and could face prosecution. I would therefore ask you not to do this as we all enjoy thirteen weeks of holiday every year during which we can go away.
I do hope that you and your family will have a wonderful Easter break and I would like to remind you that school re-opens for pupils on Tuesday 25th April at the normal time. I look forward to seeing you then.
Mr. R. Hopkins
