Summer One Year Six - How you can support your child at home

English: Your child will be receiving homework in the CGP books for reading and grammar.  Please ensure that they complete the pages that the teachers are setting weekly in preparation for their upcoming SATS. Please also ensure that your child is reading for at least 10 minutes each day and talk to them about their book. Maths: Your child will be receiving homework in the CGP books for reasoning and arithmetic.  Please ensure that they complete the pages that the teachers are setting weekly in preparation for their upcoming SATS. Ensure that your child is using TTrockstars at home – this should be 15 minutes a day to ensure fluency. Encourage your child to explain the maths concepts and skills they are learning to you - they could play the role of a teacher. Activities that you can do with your child to improve a range of their maths skills can be found here:  Primary Parents ( Practice their arithmetic skills to improve speed and accuracy. There are many free resources that help with this such as - Tools for Maths Teachers.

Geography: When out and about in Dagenham, talk to your child about the physical and human features of the area and how it is similar or different to other areas in the country that they have previously studied. Take a walk in the local area and discuss the buildings. Think about the different types of features that can be seen. Visit local parkland such as Beam Parkland , The Chase Nature Reserve or Eastbrookend Country Park

DT: Ask your child to show you how they made their pitta pizzas! An easy and heathy meal choice that can be enjoyed by all of the family! They could ask the family to evaluate them afterwards.

Art: Ask your child to investigate the editing tools in devices such as smart phones or tablets and use these to edit and manipulate photographs that they have taken.

PE: Encourage your child to use every day activities to stay healthy e.g. riding a bike, a scooter or skipping and ask them about why activity is good for their health, fitness and well-being.

French: Encourage your child to share the new vocabulary learnt in French and say the names of objects around your home in French.

Music: Encourage your child to learn their songs and contributions to the year 6 leavers' performance.
