24/25 Spring 2 Week 3

{item_alt_tag}

Dear parents and carers,

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had at our school! Our classrooms have been buzzing with energy as pupils immerse themselves in a wide range of engaging learning experiences. From important meetings with parents to inspiring activities in science, it’s wonderful to see our whole school community working together to help every child thrive. Here’s a look at what’s been happening:

Parents’ Evening Success
We were delighted to welcome so many parents to our recent Parents’ Evening. Thank you for taking the time to meet with your child’s teacher. These conversations are crucial for strengthening our home–school partnership and ensuring every pupil’s progress. If you have not had the chance to schedule an appointment yet, please do so as soon as possible. We will also be arranging a Parents’ Evening for Class 3A soon—more details to follow.

Science Week Highlights
Our Science Week activities were a huge hit! Pupils had the chance to explore everything from virtual reality workshops to fun presentations with Silly Science. It was fantastic to see so many of our young learners inspired by science, asking questions, and making new discoveries.

Collective Worship: Peacemakers
Our theme for Collective Worship continues to focus on Peacemakers, guided by Ephesians 2:8–9, which reminds us of the grace shown to us by God. We are discussing how this grace shapes our relationships both in school and at home. We encourage you to speak with your children about what they have learned, reinforcing these ideas of peace and understanding in everyday life.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for helping us create another fun-filled week of learning. We look forward to seeing your continued involvement in your children’s education and growth!

I pray you all have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. David Huntingford

On Friday 4th April 2025, we will be having a joint celebration for National Autism Day and our fabulous partner iRock, we will be holding a special assembly. You are all invited to join us if you can at 10m in the sports hall.

We are asking all children to wear the colour blue as the colour blue is associated with calmness and acceptance, is the primary colour designated for autism.

We will have collection pots for any donations and all proceeds will help buy equipment that will help support our autistic children.

We apologise for the difficulties this week on Parent Pay, all trip charges should be visible now.

Please ensure that all outstanding France day trip payments are made as a matter of urgency.

There are a number of outstanding payments on after school clubs, please ensure all balances are clear.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Pupils are expected to wear school uniform each day. We have noticed that some children are not following this instruction.

  1. We do not expect parents to purchase branded logo jumpers and polo shirts. Generic uniform can be purchased from the local supermarket
  2. Please ensure your child's name is written inside each item.
  3. Children should wear no jewellery other than watches and stud earrings.
  4. Nail varnish and make-up are not permitted.
  5. Earrings must be removed for P.E. and swimming.
  6. PE Kits should remain in school as each class will have unto two PE lessons per week. The days of these can change at any point.

Little Leaders Visionary Women Around The World by Vashti Harrison

This book is about achievements, it tells us information about people who have achieved great things. My favourite part of the book is Fatima Al-Fihri's childhood. It tells us about her birth and the remarkable things she did in her life. There are different cultures celebrated from different places in the world like Wang Zhenyi. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the people that have made a difference in their cultures and have had enthusiastic lives.

Year Three

It has been a real pleasure having the opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress in person at our parent consultations this week.

What we have learnt about this week

We have had a hardworking week in Year 3.

In maths, we have begun learning about unit fractions, non-unit fractions and wholes.

During our English lessons the children planned their own superhero and then wrote a description of their characters traits and appearance. They also learnt how to write a recount.

In science the children learnt more about how fossils are formed and had an exciting lesson during which they created their own ‘fossils’.

In R.E. the children learnt about the Jewish celebrations of Bar and Bat Mitzvah and in geography we practised using grid references to locate features on our class island.

What we will learn about next week

Next week we will be learning when to use ‘a’ and ‘an’ in our grammar lesson and exploring characters emotions.

In maths, we will be learning about equivalent fractions.

In science we will be learning about soil and how it is made and history we will be comparing the two ancient Greek states of Sparta and Athens.

In art the children will learn how to frottage and in R.E. we will begin to look at Jewish festivals focusing on Rosh Hashanah.

Year Four

It has been another successful week in Year Four.

What we have learnt about this week

English this week has seen the children coming to the end of their work on How to Train Your Dragon. The have taken part in drama and have planned their quest stories. They have been really imaginative and have thought carefully about how their stories should progress.

Maths has seen the children working on tenths and hundredths. They have been looking at what happens when you divide a one- or two-digit number by 10 and have been becoming more confident in using decimals for this.

History this week has seen the children investigating Danebury Iron Age Hill Fort and using their observations to find out about Iron Age life. In science, we have started the exciting new topic of ‘electricity’ thinking about what appliances we use that need electricity to power them. They have also started to think about how electricity is generated.

What we will learn about next week

After completing their quest stories in English next week, the children will be beginning their new unit on poetry.

Maths will see the children continuing to work on decimals, specifically thinking about dividing one- and two-digit numbers by 100.

In RE, the children will continue to think about the events of Holy Week, leading up to our Easter performance in a couple of weeks’ time.

Year Five

Year 5 have had another great week, with lots of fun learning going on, including a science workshop, involving VR headsets.

What we have learnt about this week

This week in English, we have been looking at play scripts, inspired by Shakespeare and the book we are studying: A Midsummer Night’s dream. The pupils adapted a play script and then performed it to their class. This was great fun and there were some really confidence-building performances, all round.

In maths, pupils have been continuing their topic on fractions/decimals/ percentages, looking at how to round decimal numbers to whole numbers and to 1 decimal place.

In art, pupils have been continuing their work on portraits and collages, using their self-made backgrounds, to add their ‘kenning themed’ portraits.

In science, we had the privilege of having a VR headset workshop, where pupils got to learn about space, using virtual reality.

What we will learn about next week

Next week, in English we will be learning how to write a descriptive paragraph, based round our theme: A Midsummer Night’s dream.

Year Six

What we have learnt about this week

This week in English, we worked on identifying relative clauses and explored characters and emotions by dramatizing parts of The Highwayman poem. We also took part in hot seating to better understand the characters’ actions and feelings. To enhance our writing, we created descriptive sentences using alliteration, metaphor, and personification. In Maths this week, we calculated the mean, measured and classified angles, and worked out the different angles in a triangle. or Science Week, we enjoyed a VR workshop on the how we can look after our environment, the children loved it and were very excited.

What we will learn about next week

Next week in Year 6, students will have their final mock SATs. They have been working really hard to prepare for the upcoming tests. In P.E, the children will continue with their dance unit. In PSHE, children will understand the importance of the recovery position and what actions to take when emergencies arise. In English, the children will summarise the narrative poem and create their own story versions of this engaging poem.
