24/25 - Summer 1, Week 4

{item_alt_tag}

Dear parents and carers,

A huge well done to all our Year Six pupils—and to the staff who support them—for making it through SATs week with such resilience and maturity. We are incredibly proud of how calm, focused, and determined the children have been throughout.

Thank you also to everyone who helped make our special Year Six Breakfast Club such a success. Starting each day with a good breakfast, some gentle conversation, and a moment of calm really helped set the tone for the tests ahead.

Before their final paper, Mrs Isaac-Wilson led a beautiful Collective Worship around the theme of hope, reminding all of us not to worry about challenges like tests, but instead to trust in the future and the good things ahead.

Our whole-school Collective Worship this week was centred on the story of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness (Matthew 4). We reflected on how Jesus stood firm when tempted, relying on God’s word for strength and guidance. Just as Jesus didn’t give in—despite hunger, fear, and pride—we reminded children that they too can choose to act wisely, even when faced with difficult choices. When challenges come, we don’t need to face them alone—we can trust Jesus to keep us safe.

I pray you all have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. David Huntingford

Headteacher

Fiddle Toys in School

We are committed to supporting the diverse needs of all our learners. One tool that has become increasingly recognised for its benefits in the classroom is the use of fiddle toys (also known as fidget toys).

Fiddle toys are not just toys—they are tools. When used appropriately, they can:

  • Improve concentration and attention

  • Reduce anxiety and restlessness

  • Help manage sensory needs without disrupting others

  • Support emotional regulation during challenging tasks

However, we have noticed an increase in the number of children bringing these toys into school and they are not being used for their intended purpose. If you feel your child needs a fiddle toy in school, please speak to you child’s class teacher or myself before allowing them to bring them in so we can agree if one is suitable and which type would be best.

To ensure fiddle toys remain a helpful support, not a distraction, we follow a few key principles:

  • The toy should be quiet and non-distracting to others.

  • It should be used as a focus aid—not as a plaything.

  • Use may be monitored by staff to ensure it remains effective.

If you have any questions about this or would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We found out that William Ford has been chosen to receive a community distribution food delivery during the half-term.

We are extremely excited and thankful for this amazing opportunity to provide additional food for our families who may be able to use these meals to support their family during the school holidays.

We are building relationships with the Felix project in the hopes of receiving more frequent deliveries over the coming months to help us support our community.

When the delivery arrives, we will notify parents by text so they can make their way to the school to collect some items.

Anisha, Accidental Detective by Serna Patel
Book review
Anisha was solving the crime of who dumped painting on Mehidi that burned her. We both won the book on World book Day and loved reading this book. Our favourite character is Anisha as she is an exciting character. We both recommend this book if you enjoy reading funny books. It has wonderful illustrations all the way through that made us really like it. We thought it was very creative.

Year Three

It has been a lovely warm and sunny week in Year three and the children have been working hard across all subject areas.

What we have learnt about this week

In English, we have practised setting out direct speech between two characters, including the correct punctuation. We have also been exploring a range of synonyms for ‘said’.

Today we have planned our assessment piece of writing which will be completed next week.

In maths, we have been collecting data to create our own bar graphs.

This week our R.E. lesson focussed on teachings of Jesus and how they are still relevant today.

Using in magnets in science, the children explored contact and non-contact and revised push and pull as forces.

What we will learn about next week

Next week the children will write the next chapter of ‘The Wild Robot’ including a dilemma and a solution for their writing assessment.

We will begin our next maths unit which is telling the time. Please feel free to practise this at home too as the children often find this challenging.

In R.E. we will be learning about the parable of ‘The Widow’s Mite’ and creating a drama based upon this.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend ready for one more hardworking week before half term! 😊

Year Four

Well done to all year 4, for working hard this week.

What we have learnt about this week

This week in Year 4, we have been busy writing our non-chronological reports about the Amazon Rainforest. The children showcased their creativity and understanding of this vital ecosystem, producing some impressive work. We are also pleased to announce that we have now completed our unit on time, where students gained valuable insights into the concepts of past, present, and future. In science, our focus shifted to the fascinating world of electricity. The children had great fun making electrical circuits, learning how to connect components and observe the flow of electricity, which sparked their curiosity and engagement. In history, we explored the significant impact of the Roman Empire's invasion of Britain.

What we will learn about next week

Next week, the children will be completing their English non-chronological reports on the Amazon rainforest. This engaging topic allows them to explore the unique features of this vital ecosystem while enhancing their writing skills. In Mathematics, we will embark on a new topic focused on shapes, where students will get the opportunity to investigate and learn through practical activities. Furthermore, we are excited to announce an upcoming trip to Colchester Castle, which ties beautifully into our History curriculum.

Year Five

It has been another action-packed, fun-filled week in Year 5!

What we have learnt about this week

This week, in English, we have been continuing with our theme of the Lion King and have taken on the role of a lyricist (songwriter), analysing songs from the Lion King and writing our own lyrics.

In maths, we have been looking at angles, understanding and practicing measuring and drawing angles.

In Science, we looked at the life cycle of a frog and how this differs to a life cycle of a mammal.

In RE, we have continued our theme of Islam, exploring their place of worship – the mosque in detail and comparing it to other places of worship.

What we will learn about next week

Next week, we will be learning about shape in maths, including polygons and irregular polygons.

In English, we will be writing the next chapter of the Lion King, using our imagination and taking inspiration from our recent theatre visit.

In Science, we will be looking at the life cycle of an insect!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Year Six

At last, SATs are finally behind us!  We encourage all children to fully relax over the weekend after all their hard work this week.

What we have learnt about this week

This week, of course, has been SATs testing for the Year 6 children.  We have been incredibly proud of the way all the children have approached their tests.  They have not only put in 100% effort but also really supported each other every day.  It was great to see so many of the children at our SATs breakfasts before school each morning.  These breakfast sessions allowed the children not just the opportunity to eat something to set themselves up for their tests, but it was also a lovely, relaxed start to each day for them.  On Thursday afternoon, we celebrated the end of SATs with a party and today the children went to watch a film at the Vue cinema in Dagenham.

What we will learn about next week

Next week, the children will be pleased to get back to their regular teaching timetable with no mention of SATs revision! We will pick up our geographical examination of South America by exploring its trading links with the rest of the world.  In art, the children will complete their own piece of work inspired by one of the artists they have studied over this term.  In science we will begin a new unit of work exploring the different systems in the human body.  On Wednesday 21 May, the children will be participating in the Junior Citizen scheme, a program designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge to deal with various emergency situations and make responsible choices within their communities. It involves travelling to Romford after lunch and the children are expected to be back at school between 4:15pm and 4:30pm.  Friday 23 May will be the children’s first (of six) swimming lesson.  Please ensure they bring their trunks, costume, swimming hat, towel and goggles if required.

Each week, staff select three children from each class who have shown effort and commitment to upholding an aspect of our school vision, shown at the bottom of the page. Congratulations to this week’s ‘stars of the week’ for their tremendous endeavours!
