25/26 - Autumn 2, Week 6

{item_alt_tag}

Dear parents and carers,

As we finally come to the end of the term, I want to say what a truly fantastic term it has been. It was a real delight to lead our celebration Collective Worship this morning and to reflect together on just how much has happened, not only this month, but across the whole term.

Our pupils have experienced an incredible range of opportunities. From the Year 6 residential at Trewern, to the many festive events that have filled the school with joy, including iSingPop, Christmas parties, the Christmas disco, Christmas dinner day and Christmas jumper day. These moments create memories that last well beyond the classroom and are such an important part of school life.

Alongside this, pupils have enjoyed a rich and exciting curriculum, brought to life through special days such as Victorian Day, Indian Day, UK Day and Egyptian Day. These experiences, together with trips such as the Science Museum and cinema visits, have helped to deepen learning and spark curiosity. We have also seen the start of new initiatives, including pupils learning to cook alongside our school cook, which is already proving to be a huge success.

This term has also been full of wider enrichment and community events. William's Winter Wonderland and our Christmas Bazaar were real highlights. The Bazaar raised over £1,000 and generated approximately £800 profit, which will be reinvested directly for the benefit of our pupils. We were also delighted to welcome Santa to school, host football matches, and receive a range of visitors, from West Ham United to Matt Hancock, all helping to broaden pupils’ experiences and aspirations.

None of this happens without your support. Thank you to parents, carers and staff for everything you have done to make this such a busy, joyful and successful term. We are already looking forward to even more exciting opportunities in 2026.

Before we finish, I would like to encourage parents to complete the parent survey if you have not already done so. I shared feedback from the responses in today’s leadership meeting, but we would really value hearing from more of you. We especially appreciate reading your positive comments about the school, which are a huge motivation for staff.

A quick reminder about communication. Some emails come directly from the school, while others are sent via a service called Juniper. If you see an email from Juniper, it is likely to be from William Ford. Please check your junk folders and add both the William Ford and Juniper email addresses to your safe senders list so you do not miss important information.

All that remains is to wish you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. We hope you enjoy celebrating with friends and family. We look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Monday 6th January for Colombia Day, where children are invited to come dressed in red, yellow, blue, or any combination of the colours of the Colombian flag, as we celebrate our sponsor children.

I pray you all have a wonderful weekend and blessed Christmas holiday.

The Last Bear by Hannah Gold

I have chosen this book because it shows real life situations. It shows great friendships between humans and animals which you do not really find in other books.

Year Three

It has been a fun packed week both in and out of the classroom this week and we cannot believe that the children have already been at William Ford for a whole term!

What we have learnt about this week

We have spent a lot of time designing and making Egyptian collars using fabric this week. The children had to cut and sew the fabric. They also had to evaluate their finished product and consider what went well and what they could improve.

The children have taken part in lots of Christmassy art and craft activities too, as well as visiting the church, watching an online pantomime and creating and performing a shadow puppet show of the nativity story.

We have also enjoyed the school disco and a movie morning. It has truly been a lovely week!

What we will learn about next week

Next term we will begin our new shared reading book ‘Wild Cities’.

In maths we will be continuing with multiplication focussing on 4 and 8 times tables. In science we will begin a new unit ‘Rocks, Soils and Fossils.’

The Year Three team would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.

We look forward to welcoming the children back next time for more learning and fun!

Year Four

This week has been packed with festive fun, joyful learning and plenty of sparkle as we wrap up an amazing term together.

What we have learnt about this week

This week RE’s lesson saw the children studying the story of Jesus’s birth in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. The children made comparisons and made Christmas cards based on one of these Gospels. The children were surprised to discover that no animals are mentioned in the Christmas story in the Bible.

The children have finished their investigations into evaporation, making conclusions about heat encouraging evaporation to take place.

The pupils also have finished their art units by printing their paisley patterns. The results were amazing. They also made stained glass windows and a number of other Christmas activities.

What we will learn about next week

Next term, the children will be introduced to a new book “How to Train Your Dragon” by Cressida Cowell.

They will be continuing to improve their multiplication and division skills in maths, moving on to factor pairs and multiplying by 10 and 100.

In science, we will start a unit on sound and geography will see the children focused on Scandinavia.

The Year Four team would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year! See you in 2026!

Year Five

Wow, we cannot believe it is the last week of term! Year 5 have had a great end to term with lots of Christmassy activities!

What we have learnt about this week

This week, we have been focusing on our leaflets in English, about Syria. As part of English and Geography, we have been learning about refugees and the war in Syria and have produced a leaflet, which double sup as a guide for refugees. A refugee information pack.

In maths, we have been finishing up our unit on fractions.

As well as that, we have been having lots of Christmas events, such as the Christmas Church service, Christmas jumper day and some Christmas educational activities.

The Year 5 team want to wish you a wonderful Christmas break and a Happy New Year and we pray that you will have a fun, restful and safe time during the Christmas period. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year, 2026!

Year Six

The year 6 team can’t believe how quickly this first term of the academic year has flown by!  It has been another busy week not just in the classroom but with a wide range of festive activities including attending a church service on Tuesday and of course our end of term Christmas disco which the children clearly enjoyed.

What we have learnt about this week

The children have completed a range of units of work across the curriculum.  In science, they made their festive electrical circuits and pitched them, Dragon’s Den style, to their class teachers.  In history, the children completed their virtual exhibit for a museum using a combination of Lego, K’Nex and the Freeform app on the school IPads.  The children worked brilliantly on this and clearly enjoyed themselves during the whole process.  Our R.E. lesson this week was another lesson that the children fully engaged in and enjoyed – after exploring the role of music in Christian worship they were tasked with creating their own soundtrack to a biblical text.  Their creations were each unique and each group performed their soundtrack to their peers.

The Year 6 team wish all families of the school community a restful break over the Christmas holiday and we look forward to welcoming the children back in 2026 all raring to go!

Each week, staff select two children from each class who have shown effort and commitment to upholding an aspect of our school vision, shown at the bottom of the page. Congratulations to this week’s ‘stars of the week’ for their tremendous endeavours!
