Year Six
This week in English, the children have been learning about the importance of using colons and semi-colons accurately to improve the clarity and flow of their writing. They have also been developing their ability to describe settings using their five senses, helping them to create vivid and engaging descriptions.
In Mathematics, our focus has been on algebra, where the children have been forming and simplifying expressions and developing their understanding of formulae.
In French, we have continued learning about sports, building confidence in both vocabulary and spoken language. Our work in Geography has centred on South America, which has been a particularly interesting topic and one that the children have really enjoyed exploring.
Year 6 have had an amazing week, showing great enthusiasm, focus and effort across all areas of learning.
What we will learn about next week
Next week, the children will be taking part in their assessment week. This will include a Reading Paper 1, a mental arithmetic paper, Reasoning Papers 1 and 2, as well as a SPaG test and a spelling test. These assessments are an opportunity for the children to show what they have learned, and they will be supported throughout the week to approach them with confidence and a positive mindset.
Alongside assessments, we will continue with our English learning. The children will carry on with our unit Into the Wild: Reviewing Hotels in the Heart of the Mountains, where they will further develop their descriptive writing skills. Through both group work and independent tasks, pupils will focus on using ambitious vocabulary, effective sentence structures and vivid imagery to bring their writing to life.
We are looking forward to another engaging and productive week with Year 6 and are proud of the effort and resilience the children continue to show
