Summer 2 - Week 7

{alt_tag}

Dear parents and carers,

It's been a long term, but we have finally made it to the summer holidays!  I am sure, like me, you are all looking forward to some rest and family time and a break from school.  But before we all depart for the holidays, there have been some fantastic events taking place this week.

Basketball matches: Staff vs Year Six

This exciting event took place on Tuesday.  Do take time to read our article below; photos are available on our website and William Ford app.

Sports Day

Another favourite of staff, pupils and parents.  This took place on Wednesday and was another wonderful opportunity for the school community to come together to enjoy sport in a competitive environment.  My thanks to Mr. Wakeford for organising this and well done to everybody who took part.

Year Six leavers' assembly

It is with sadness, but also a sense of pride, that we say goodbye to our wonderful Year Six pupils as they embark on the next step on their education journey.  I am sure a tear or two was shed as Year Six relived their memories of William Ford and shared their achievements and different events and trips that they enjoyed.  They are in our thoughts and prayers as they take this next step as are the current Year Two pupils who are preparing to join us in September!

So, we have reached the end of another busy year.  It has been great to see how the school continues to develop, in terms of pupil learning but also in its environment.  Our school looks better than ever, helped by our fantastic playground development.  So what for next year?  Well our Year Six residential is booked to Wales for November, we have already booked iSIngPop and our DJ for Christmas and of course we have the launch of our new radio station in September along with our new special needs base - The Learning Zone.  The school is going to be incredibly busy over the holiday with builders!

We are also aware that we are likely to receive a visit from OFSTED next year too - let's hope that goes as well as our Church of England inspection that was conducted last April.

Please remember that pupils return to school on Wednesday 6th September and that all pupils need to be sat in class by 8:45am.  Gates will open at 8:35am.

I pray you all have a wonderful weekend and a fantastic summer.

Wow, what a year we have had. Time has flown by.  Today we had to say goodbye to our year 6 pupils: we expect to see and hear great things from them on the future.

Please enjoy your six-week holiday and good luck to all of our leavers!

When we return in September the school day will start earlier as Mr Huntingford has previously mentioned.

Gates will open at 8.35am and pupils must be in and seated at 8.45am. Anyone who arrives after 8.45am will receive an L mark in the register which is a late mark. If your child arrives anytime from 9.10am they will receive a U mark - this is an Unauthorised attendance mark.  Each one of these received in a week is a negative attendance mark.

This week's book recommendation is 'The London Eye Mystery' by Siobhan Dowd. Year 6 have been reading this as part of their shared reading lessons and really enjoyed it. Ted's cousin Salim goes onto the London Eye and disappears! The book tells the story of what happened to Salim and how the family try to find him.

Year Three

Well, Year Three, we've made it to the last week of term! Our last week seems to have been as busy as all the others.

History has seen the children think about the legacy of the Ancient Greeks. They were amazed to find out just how many words in the English language, originate in Ancient Greek. Just think- if the Ancient Greeks hadn't existed, we would be speaking a very different language in school. They have also thought about the Greek's contribution to the studies of mathematics and astronomy, amongst other influences. They have been thinking about which of these has the most impact on us in the modern day.

Talking of mathematics, lessons this week concluded their work on money with the children thinking about what change would be given when solving various problems. This is something they can continue to practise in their daily lives.

The Year Three team would like to wish the children every success as they continue on their journey through the school. We are so proud of the amazing progress that they have all made, and we will miss them so much. They have been an absolute pleasure to teach. Have a fabulous summer. Ms Nash, Mrs Manning, Miss Finch and Mrs Legg.

Year Four

It is the last week of term!! We cannot believe that we are in the last week of the school year and our wonderful Year 4 pupils will be moving into year 5 after the summer holidays! This week we have been making some finishing touches to our curriculum subjects, as well as finishing off some projects, such as our slingshot car in Design Technology, our story writing in Literacy and our RE unit of the Kingdom of God. We really enjoyed exploring the fruits of the spirit and how they apply to our life. As well, as this, the pupils have had a great time taking part in whole school events, such as Sports day, the year 4 recorder music performance, as well as the leavers' assembly for Year 6. We just want to say how proud we are of every member of Year 4 and the progress they have made this year. Each pupil truly has been a pleasure to teach and we wish them all the best in Year 5 and beyond! Mr Wakeford, Mrs Damonse and Mrs Buckingham wish you a wonderful summer holiday!!

Year Five

Wow! What a fantastic final week this has been in Year Five. Year Five have had a wonderful end to the last week of term.

The children finalised their imaginary world in English this week - it was incredible to see the leaps of progress each child has made since the beginning of the year. The green pens were out when they edited their work to make further improvements. It was lovely to see them all so inspired by our class read 'The Nowhere Emporium'. There is a sequel to this book so watch out for that on their birthday lists! In maths, we finished by looking at capacity - the children worked diligently to answer many problem solving and reasoning questions. Our geography unit ended by the children comparing New York and London - focusing on their human and physical features. The children have thoroughly enjoyed studying North America this half term.

The Year Five team wish all children success as they head to Year Six - we pray you have a safe and wonderful summer break! We look forward to welcoming our new Year Fives!

Year Six

We can't quite believe it, but we have finally made it to the end of the year and the end of Year 6's time at William Ford School. This week has been a week of sharing memories of all the amazing things we have done over the years. The children put on a fabulous assembly to celebrate their achievements. This was enjoyed by the whole school.

All the teachers and support staff in Year 6 have been so proud of all the children this year. They have worked so hard and have made great progress. We would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best for whatever their future holds.

It was an emotional end to the day as we said goodbye, but we hope that we will see you all at some point in the future. Have a wonderful summer break to relax and prepare for starting whichever school you will be attending in September.
