24/25 - Autumn 1, Week 2

{item_alt_tag}

Dear parents and carers,

We are immensely proud of how hard the children have been working, showing dedication and enthusiasm in all they do. A special mention goes to Year Three, who will soon be starting their own ballet workshops—a wonderful opportunity for them to experience the beauty of dance.

A quick reminder: our virtual “Meet the SLT” session is at 9:30 a.m. on 27th September. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear more about the school, especially following our recent successful Ofsted inspection, and to ask any general questions about the school and its provision. Please remember that questions regarding your own child cannot be discussed in a public forum. For these, you should make an appointment with the class teacher initially, or with Mrs Legg, our Phase Leader for Years Three and Four and Assistant Headteacher. For Years Five and Six, you can speak with Mr Buckingham, Phase Leader and Deputy Headteacher. Any queries about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) should be directed to our SENDCO, Mrs Beech.

In Collective Worship, we have been reflecting on the story of Jonah, focusing on Jonah 1:4-16. This passage tells how Jonah’s disobedience led to a fierce storm that endangered everyone on the ship. The sailors, in their desperation, turned to God, and the storm was calmed once they threw Jonah overboard. This story reminds us that our actions can have far-reaching consequences, but when we own up to our mistakes and turn to God, He can calm the storms in our lives. It’s a great message for us all to take responsibility and seek peace with others.

I pray you all have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. David Huntingford

Headteacher

Secondary school transfers!

Can you believe it is time already for our year 6 pupils to start looking at secondary schools?

All secondary schools are offering open evenings over the next couple of weeks and if you have a child with SEND, you can call the school to arrange a private tour.

If your child year 6 child has an EHCP, you will receive an email from the EHC Team to complete your preferences, as the route for applications is slightly different. I have sent a paper copy home for you today. This needs to be completed by the given timeframe stated in the email.

If you have any questions about open days or secondary transfers, please speak to myself or Mrs Noakes.

Please be advised that children are required to arrive at school from 8:35 am and be ready to start lessons by 8:45 am. School gates will be closed at 8.45am promptly.

We kindly request that parents do not enter the playgrounds in the mornings to allow the children to build confidence.

In order to ensure the safety of parents and children whilst making their way to and from school we are working in conjunction with village Infants.

We will be raising the bollards installed at the end of the driveway.

  • Every morning from 8:25 am to 8:50 am
  • Every evening from 2:55 pm to 3:25 pm.

Year Three

We have enjoyed another busy and exciting week full of new learning and new experiences this week in Year Three.

What we have learnt about this week

In our English lessons we have continued reading about Marcy and her adventures and have completed written tasks based on this. The children have discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a particular event and have written a conflicting argument for these. They have also written a character description of Marcy and have included their new learning on pronouns within this work.

In maths, the children having been amazing us with their knowledge of place value and have been illustrating the value of various amounts using a range of resources.

In science, we have learnt more about vertebrates, invertebrates and animals with an exoskeleton. We have sorted animals by this criteria.

In R.E. we read about what the Bible had to say about creation and designed our own pictures to match the seven days mentioned.

Today we were lucky enough to vto watch the students of the Royal Ballet School perform. Year Three learnt how much fitness,  strength and dedication it takes to become a professional ballet dancer. They also got to see some of the steps they will be learning in their upcoming lessons, as well as lifts and pirouettes, which they really enjoyed.

What we will learn about next week

In English we will be learning how to use prepositions in grammar. We will also be writing our own research questions and using note-taking skills to research the answers. The children will also plan and write a description of the desert.

In R.E. we are going to discuss 'looking after our world'  and in history we are going to find out more about ancient civilisations and where and when they developed.

We will also have our first ballet lesson, so please ensure the children have their PE kit on Friday.

Year Four

Year 4 has settled well into their classes, and it has been another busy week of learning.

What we have learnt about this week

In English, we continue to explore our classroom book. The pupils are currently crafting persuasive arguments regarding whether Nell should leave her cave.

In Mathematics, our primary focus remains on place value, enhancing their problem-solving abilities.

In Science, the children focused on invertebrates and vertebrates, learning to distinguish between these two groups of animals.

In History, students delved into chronology and in R.E, the children explored the story of the First Sin, including the narrative of Adam and Eve, which fosters discussions about moral lessons and historical context.

What we will learn about next week

In English, the children will have a classroom debate on the reasons for staying and leaving the cave. In maths, we will continue to focus on place value. In geography, children will look at humans and physical features in India. In R. E, children will create their own front cover newsletter based on the story of Adam and Eve. In science, children will look more closely at the classification of different animals.

Thank you to those who are remembering their P.E kits and completing their TTRS at home.

Year Five

Year 5 have settled very well into their new classes and have been working hard this week.

What we have learnt about this week

In English we have been learning about modal verbs. We have also been exploring what life was like in the U.S.A.  during the 1940s and offering advice to Dorothy, the main character so far in 'Hidden Figures'.

In maths we have continued with place value,  looking at greater and less than, number lines and powers of 10.

We have commenced our geography this term by revising what we have previously learnt about the United Kingdom and then using our research skills to explore deeper questions.

For art, we explored different styles and media choices used to create pictures of space.

This week in R.E. we have been thinking about stories explaining human nature. We wrote our own stories about modern temptations and consequences based on the story of Adam and Eve.

What we will learn about next week

Next week, in English, we will be introduced to a new character in 'Hidden Figures' for our reading and writing.

In maths, we will be rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100,1000,10,000 and 1,000,000.

We return to history where we will be looking at where the Anglo-Saxons settled and their settlements.

Thank you to everyone who is remembering to bring their reading records daily and completing their TT Rockstars at home.

Year Six

The Year 6 children have had an extremely busy second week.  They have completed SATs papers in maths, reading, spelling and grammar as part of their baseline assessments.  The Year 6 team have been very proud of the focus and effort the children put into this and will share the data from these assessments with you during the autumn term parents’ evening.

What we have learnt about this week

In addition to their SATs assessments, the children have continued to work across a range of curriculum subjects.  In their science lesson, the children explored animal and plant adaptation.  In geography, the children began their new topic about mountains by conducting internet research focussing on the key details of important mountains across the world.  In art, the children have begun to examine the work of the Victorian artist William Morris.  The children have also continued examining online safety in their IT lessons, whilst in English, they began creating a wanted poster for the character Mr Spink.

What we will learn about next week

Next week, the children will investigate Victorian photographs and paintings in their history lesson.  In science, the children will use their knowledge of adaptation to design their own animal for a specific environment.  In English, our grammar lesson will focus on using the hyphen to avoid ambiguity, and the children will also start planning and writing a descriptive setting.

Once again, the Year 6 team would like to thank you for your continued support and wish you a restful weekend.
