From curiosity to career: Console Clinic founder Kyle Weinberg inspires William Ford pupils.
Sometimes the best careers start with a simple question: how does this work, and can I fix it?
That was one of the most memorable things our children took from today's visit by Kyle Weinberg, founder of Console Clinic, who came in with his store manager Emily to share his career in tech repair.
Console Clinic repairs game consoles, phones, iPads and computers, buys and sells tech, and works to reduce electronic waste in the community. But what made Kyle's story particularly compelling for our children was how he got there. His curiosity about how technology works led him to experiment, to learn, and eventually to build a business from that knowledge.
The repair and recycle message also landed strongly. Electronic waste is a growing problem, and Console Clinic is part of the solution, fixing technology rather than discarding it. Our children understood and appreciated that.
Kyle and Emily were interviewed on our pupil-run radio station before the assembly, giving our DJs another excellent morning.
For pupils who love technology and wonder whether that interest could ever become a career, Kyle's answer was a clear and encouraging yes.
We are very grateful to Kyle and Emily for giving their time so generously.
