This week we welcomed Elizabeth Kangethe, the first British person of Kenyan descent to be elected as a councillor for the Parsloes ward and former Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, who came in to speak to our children about her remarkable career in local politics.

Elizabeth shared her journey from Kenya to the UK, spoke honestly about the challenges and racism she faced along the way, and reminded our children that we are all made in the image of God and equally loved. She brought local democracy to life and gave our pupils the confidence to know that their voices, and their concerns, matter.

She was also interviewed on our school radio station and had some lovely things to say about the school.

Her message was simple: have faith in yourself, and have faith in God.
