    • City Hall Trip: An Educational Experience for the Worship, School, and Eco Councils

      Published 30/01/25

The Worship, School, and Eco Councils recently visited City Hall for an exciting and educational trip, where they explored London’s history, governance, and future development. Highlights of the trip included:

      • Key Topics: The councils learnt about the history of London, the role of the mayor, ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone), and the iconic cable car introduced in 2012. They also discovered the story behind the famous "London Bridge is Falling Down" nursery rhyme.

      • Cable Car Ride: A major highlight of the trip was the chance for the students to ride the London Cable Car themselves, offering them a unique perspective of the city’s skyline.

      • Eco Initiatives: City Hall, recognised as the most eco-friendly building in Europe, boasts two Brenham certificates and unique features like tiles made from fishing nets, emphasising the city’s commitment to sustainability.

      • Careers and Leadership: The students explored career opportunities in London, including roles within the mayor’s office, and discussed the importance of gender equality in leadership positions, including whether women can serve as mayors.

      • Transport and Infrastructure: The group delved into London’s transport systems, learning about the Crossrail project and the challenging work of tunnelling and construction, particularly for the Elizabeth Line. Dwayne, one of the students, was especially enthusiastic about transport upgrades.

      • Debating Chamber: The children had the opportunity to visit the debating chamber, where London’s key decisions are made, providing them with a deeper understanding of local governance.

      • Engagement with Londoners: The councils learnt how Londoners can actively participate in consultations to shape the city’s future.

Overall, the trip was a fun and insightful experience, giving the councils a deeper appreciation for London’s rich history, leadership, and innovative projects, while inspiring curiosity about future careers and the city's continued growth.
