Eleven Engaging Experiences

At William Ford, we believe every child deserves to experience life in all its fullness. Our vision speaks of pupils being fulfilled, and part of that is recognising the wonderful opportunities that exist in the world around us, opportunities that too often only go to a lucky few.

That's why we've built eleven engaging experiences into the life of every pupil at William Ford, not just those who show a particular talent for sport, art or music. Every single child gets to take part in all eleven before they leave us, regardless of background or circumstance.

1. Enjoy a West End show. Pupils don't just watch the performance. We use the trip to explore the huge range of careers that make a show possible, from acting and music to stage management, lighting, sound and costume design.

2. Visit a foreign country. Every pupil travels to France, giving them the chance to experience another culture first hand, to hear French spoken, to speak it themselves, and to see their classroom learning come to life.

3. Enjoy a meal in a restaurant. For many of our pupils, this is a genuine first, and a chance to build confidence and social skills that will serve them well throughout life.

4. Represent the school in music, sport or art. Every child gets the chance to perform or compete for William Ford, whatever their starting point.

5. Serve within the local community. Through our Community Month and beyond, pupils give their time to serve others, from care home visits to local projects that make Dagenham a better place.

6. Perform to an audience. Whether it's our school Christmas production, a pop concert telling the nativity story, or a class assembly, every pupil has the chance to stand up and be seen.

7. Enjoy contrasting locations. Forest, beach and farm all feature, giving pupils experiences of the natural world that many wouldn't otherwise have.

8. Gain independence on a school residential. Our residentials build resilience, teamwork and confidence. We also run a smaller, specially adapted residential for pupils with additional needs, so that they too get the chance to be away from home and discover what they're capable of.

9. Learn to cook a meal. Every pupil learns practical cookery skills, supporting healthy eating and giving a taste of a future career in catering.

10. Act generously within the wider world. Through partnerships such as our sponsorship of children in Colombia, pupils learn that generosity reaches far beyond our school gates.

11. Visit UK attractions. Zoos, museums and castles all bring learning to life and broaden pupils' horizons closer to home.

We know that in the current financial climate, many of these experiences would be simply out of reach for some families if left to chance. That's why we're committed to making sure every child gets to take part, whatever their circumstances. We also make sure pupils with special educational needs have their own tailored opportunities to shine, including sporting tournaments designed specifically for them.

These eleven experiences are our way of living out our vision: helping every child to be fulfilled, and to see the wonder in the world God has given us.
