Matt Hancock visits William Ford
At William Ford C of E Junior School, our vision is to support pupils to be successful, healthy, fulfilled and empowered to make a difference. One way we bring this vision to life is by inviting people from different walks of life to share their stories of overcoming barriers to learning.
This week we were delighted to welcome Matt Hancock to our school. Matt spoke to pupils about how being recognised and supported with dyslexia at secondary school gave him the chance to pursue his career in politics. He also spoke about life outside politics, including his time on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, which certainly caught the children’s attention!
🎙️ A highlight of the day was our pupils interviewing Matt live on our radio station. The interview is now being turned into a podcast, produced by our young broadcasters, which will soon be available on the school website.
We are also grateful for the encouraging words Matt shared with pupils, staff and families about the inclusive practice he saw in action at William Ford, describing it as exemplary. His reflections meant a great deal to the whole school community.
Looking ahead, we are excited to work further with the Accessible Learning Foundation as we continue to strengthen our support for children with dyslexia and ensure that every child knows that learning differences should never limit their future.
