Afternoon tea at Lighthouse
This week, pupils in our Lighthouse Provision began their exciting journey of celebrating the many cultures that make up our school community – and what better place to start than with Britain!
To mark the occasion, the children hosted a traditional British tea party and proudly invited Headteacher Mr Huntingford to join them. Together, they enjoyed strawberries, raspberries, decaffeinated tea, and delicious scones with jam and cream. The atmosphere was warm and joyful as the children tried and shared these British favourites.
As part of the celebration, the pupils also explored the sights of London and sang the national anthem with pride, creating a memorable and meaningful moment of unity.
This event is just the beginning of a term-long exploration of the rich cultural diversity within Lighthouse. Over the coming weeks, the children will celebrate cultures from around the world that are represented in our provision – including Bangladesh, Moldova, Nigeria and Portugal, to name just a few.
These celebrations support pupils’ understanding of Article 8 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child: the right to have an identity. Through these activities, every child is encouraged to value their own heritage and appreciate the uniqueness of others.
We look forward to sharing more of their cultural adventures very soon!
