Junior Citizen Trip

Learning to be responsible citizens

Our Year 6 children had a fantastic time on their Junior Citizen trip, where they took part in a range of hands-on activities designed to help them learn how to stay safe and make responsible choices.

In small groups, the children rotated around different workshops led by professionals from the local community. They learnt what items can and can’t be flushed down the toilet, and why it’s so important to protect our sewage systems. They also took part in sessions about fire safety and what to do in an emergency, including how to call for help and where to wait safely for a bus.

The children found out how to stay safe while cycling, with reminders to always wear a helmet and use lights at night. They also talked about what to do if they find something that doesn’t belong to them, and where the safest places are to sit when travelling by bus.

They also explored important topics such as the dangers of knife crime, which types of knives are illegal, and how to respond if someone is found unresponsive. They also learnt about the laws around drugs and alcohol, and how to handle peer pressure in a safe and sensible way.

At the end of each station, the children tested their knowledge by completing a fun quiz to earn points for their group. It was a brilliant, informative trip that helped prepare our pupils to become responsible and confident young citizens.
