Colchester Castle - Year Four

Enriching learning about the Romans

Recently, our Year 4 classes embarked on an exciting trip to Colchester, where we had the incredible opportunity to explore the historic castle. The children demonstrated tremendous enthusiasm as they navigated through the ancient stone walls and learnt about Roman history, which directly links to our current topic. Their inquisitive nature shone brightly, as many students asked challenging questions regarding the castle's architecture and its significance during the Roman occupation of Britain. We were particularly impressed by the exemplary behaviour displayed by some children who stood up and greeted members of the public politely, showcasing our school’s values of respect and kindness. Every pupil was thoroughly engaged throughout the trip, eagerly absorbing information and participating in discussions. The trip not only solidified their understanding of historical events but also deepened their appreciation for the roles of historians and archaeologists. Overall, this experience significantly enriched our learning, providing a fantastic hands-on approach to understanding the Romans, and it will undoubtedly enhance our classroom discussions moving forward.
