A residential to remember
Earlier this month, a group of pupils took part in a very special residential trip to Trewern Outdoor Centre in Wales. The adventure began with pupils navigating the London Underground and boarding a long distance train to Hereford. During the journey, they worked together to plan their own shopping lists before heading straight to Morrisons upon arrival to purchase the supplies they would need.
Once at Trewern, pupils took responsibility for making their own beds, unpacking, and managing their personal care and hygiene. Throughout the week, they helped with meal preparation and tidying up, including enjoying a BBQ and crafting their own pizzas, cooked in a traditional outdoor wood fired oven.
The trip offered incredible opportunities for challenge and personal growth, from low ropes and climbing walls to gorge walking and mountain hiking. It was not always easy. There were moments of fear, frustration and tired legs, but pupils showed great determination, encouraged each other and pushed themselves to keep going. They learnt to get along with one another, even when it was difficult, and discovered how much they were capable of when they worked as a team.
Each pupil was set three personal goals: to grow in independence, to be an effective team member and to identify something they felt proud of. Around the campfire on the final evening, every child shared their reflections. Some spoke with pride, others with quiet confidence.
This was a trip filled with courage, laughter, teamwork and growth. One that will live long in the memory.
