Inspiring Futures: Lawrence Banda Visits William Ford

As part of our continued drive to inspire pupils and celebrate neurodiversity, we were delighted to welcome Lawrence Banda, CEO of beNakama, to William Ford Church of England Junior School.

Lawrence’s company develops innovative gamification software designed to make maths engaging and accessible for all learners. During his visit, Lawrence was interviewed by our school radio team and led a whole-school assembly that left pupils and staff deeply inspired.

Drawing on his own journey, Lawrence spoke about how his passion for computer games led to a successful career in technology and education. He also shared his experiences of living with ADHD, explaining how, once he understood it and developed strategies to manage it, he was able to turn it into a strength rather than a limitation.

Our pupils were captivated throughout the assembly – particularly our neurodiverse learners, who said they felt encouraged and motivated by Lawrence’s message. Many spoke afterwards about how they wanted to learn more about coding, design and careers in technology.

Headteacher Mr Huntingford said:

“Lawrence’s visit perfectly captured what our careers education is all about – helping pupils see that their passions and differences can shape their futures. It was wonderful to see every child so engaged and inspired.”

Lawrence’s visit forms part of William Ford’s ongoing work to help pupils recognise that their uniqueness is a source of strength and that neurodiversity is something to be celebrated.
