Margaret Mullane MP inspire pupils about careers in politics

Learning about careers in politics

William Ford C of E Junior School was delighted to welcome Margaret Mullane MP, Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham, to speak with pupils about her career and journey into politics.

The visit formed part of the school’s growing careers programme, which aims to introduce pupils to a wide range of possible future pathways. Recent visitors have included people working in entertainment, cookery, business, journalism, education technology, the performing arts and even magic.

Margaret began her visit by joining the school’s pupil-run radio station, where she was interviewed by pupils who had prepared a range of thoughtful questions. Topics included school funding, international events, local issues affecting families and the role of political leaders around the world.

Margaret answered each question carefully and clearly, helping pupils understand how political decisions are made and how elected representatives work to support their communities.

In assembly, Margaret spoke more about her own career journey and what inspired her to enter politics. Growing up locally, she explained that she always wanted to work in a role where she could represent and serve the community she knows so well.

She also spoke about the importance of education, perseverance and developing strong communication skills for anyone interested in careers in politics, journalism or public service.

Pupils were fascinated to learn about the responsibilities of being an MP and the many different ways people can work within government and public life.

We are extremely grateful to Margaret Mullane MP for taking the time to visit our school, speak with our pupils and inspire them to consider careers that help shape the future of their communities.
