Junior Duke of Edinburgh Award Trewern Trip 2026

Junior Duke of Edinburgh Award Trewern Trip 2026

Pupils completed their Junior Duke of Edinburgh Award in Trewern, this June. They took part in a multitude of outdoor adventurous activities, challenges and an expedition. It was a great experience for all involved.

This year, a group of our Year 5 pupils embarked on the prestigious Platinum Junior Duke Award, taking part in a wide range of challenges and activities designed to develop resilience, independence, teamwork and confidence. After months of dedication and hard work throughout the year, their journey culminated in an exciting three-day residential visit to Trewern, where they completed the expedition and challenge elements of the award.

During their time away, the pupils were given many opportunities to learn and practise valuable life skills. Teamwork was at the heart of every activity, with pupils supporting one another, solving problems together and encouraging each other to step outside their comfort zones. They developed practical outdoor skills, including fire making and raft building, whilst also learning about health and safety, risk assessment and the importance of first aid both in and around water and rivers, as well as in mountainous environments.

One of the highlights of the trip was a day spent mountaineering and caving. Pupils demonstrated determination, courage and perseverance as they tackled challenging terrain and explored underground passages. Throughout the residential, they were responsible for preparing their own lunches each day and washing up afterwards, helping to build independence and responsibility.

The final day saw the group take part in an exhilarating gorge-walking adventure. Many pupils faced personal fears as they navigated rushing water, climbed over rocks and jumped into deep pools. Their bravery, resilience and positive attitudes were evident throughout, and it was wonderful to see them supporting one another every step of the way.

The three days at Trewern provided an unforgettable conclusion to the Platinum Junior Duke Award. The pupils returned with new skills, lasting memories and a tremendous sense of achievement. We are incredibly proud of everything they accomplished throughout the year and during the residential. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and determination were a credit to themselves, their families and our school.

Well done to all of our Platinum Junior Duke Award participants!
