Year 6 say goodbye to William Ford with Prexit
Year 6 brought the curtain down on their time at William Ford this week with Prexit, their end of year production and the last show this year group will ever perform for us.
The premise was simple and brilliant: children stepping into the roles that keep a school running, from headteacher and teacher through to teaching assistant, cook, medic and site supervisor, and using each one to look back on their own journey through primary school. What followed was one of the funniest and most touching productions we have put on. There were songs that had the hall singing along, dance routines that had clearly been practised until they were second nature, and enough sharp one-liners to keep the laughs coming from start to finish.
Underneath the comedy was something much bigger. This was Year 6 processing what it means to leave. Their memories, their friendships, their nerves and excitement about secondary school, all of it was there in the writing and the performances, handled with a maturity that took a lot of us by surprise.
Watching them, it was impossible not to feel enormously proud. These are children who arrived with us in Year 3 and are leaving as confident, capable young people who can stand on a stage in front of a packed hall and own it. That is not a small thing, and it did not happen by accident.
Huge congratulations to Year 6, and a big thank you to the Year 6 team and everyone else who helped bring Prexit to life. We wish every one of our leavers the very best as they head off to secondary school. You will be missed, and we cannot wait to hear how you get on.
