New forest for William Ford

Our next exciting project begins!

After three years of campaigning for the unloved and unkempt area of Old Dagenham Park to be accessible for the school, I am delighted to share that work began today to install a new forest for future William Ford pupils to enjoy.  Funded by a city sponsor, the long grass and brambles were today removed and soil laid ready for the planting of around 1,400 tree saplings that will be about 50-60cm tall.  Within two years they will be about 170/180cm tall or roughly the height of me!  These will continue to grow to provide a lovely outdoor classroom area for the school to use.  The planting will be shared between William Ford pupils and the corporate sponsor, who we are hoping will visit William Ford, and learn about the fantastic work that takes place here each and every day.  We are also hoping that there will be additional investment in this area, including an orchard and a pond to further enrich our curriculum.

Not only will this be of great benefit to current and future William Ford pupils, but the whole community will benefit from the installation of a new forest.

The project will develop as follows....

Today our eco council oversaw the initial stages of this exciting project taking place.  Planting will begin on the 28th November!
